They are similar to this. I was planning on using smallish pots so I can put lots in and fill between with gyp or some other fillers if necessary. Nigella looks amazing thanks. Thanks for all your replies, im guessing I'll be visiting the garden centres and hoping I can bring them on in the conservatory.
Ooo your wedding is so pretty! i have 12 boxes, 9 are for centrepieces which is why I was thinking lobelia as I didn't want anything too tall in there so our guests can chat. Just have to advise people to take hay fever tablets if they're sufferers. 3 boxes is for decoration at the entrance/ceremony so happy to have taller plants in those ones. Love the purple sage, and I already have lavender in large pots in my garden this year so hopefully they'll bloom in time as want to use them in my bouquet along with my hydrangeas
In June, there is likely to be some cow parsley still in the hedgerows. If you stick it in wet oasis (in a plastic bag) it could be used a filler to add some frothiness. We had round tables, and one jug on each table with the tall gladioli in. Each had four gladioli tied back to back to give an all round effect. They have to be tied in bud and take three days to then open , so we did quite a bit of practising.
I love the crates. Could you see how many square pots it will take to fill it. I am thinking maybe 2 x 4 of 4 inch square pots. Then you can plan what to go in to give the right mix.
I have seen some really nice displays of all one flower, cut to the same size, say all lavender or small roses, packed in.
What I suggest is you have a trial run, and practice before the day. Garden centres are a good source of plants at that time of year, but also remember that the supermarkets often have good cut flowers if necessary to fill the gaps.
Ah fidget thank you. Just googled cow parsley and there was loads of that stuff May/June where we regularly walk our dog so I'm guessing I'll be foraging next year. We already get sloe berries from up there in the Autumn so we can forage cow parsley early Summer and save some money. We're lucky enough to have a flower market about 20 mins drive away whicj sells to the public so I can call up there and get any extra cut flowers to supplement.
Thought that a look at what's blooming in forum members gardens around the UK (with dates) might give you some inspiration for home grown flowers. It started back in Feb, so you've some clicking to do to get to June, but some lovely photos to look at along the way .
I'm sure that if anything catches your eye, someone will be able to advise you on growing tips.
you could try the budget German supermarkets. This year I bought several multipacks of bright pink arabis and several packs of purple aubretia from Lidl in May . They were packs of 8 I think for about £2.50 And we're already in flower.
the bright colours sound just what you're looking for, and if potted up immediately into three inch pots would be looking lovely for your centre pieces in early June.
The trouble is, they might not have the same plants this year, but whatever they have it will be significantly cheaper than the garden centres.
Thanks flower lady. Arabis looks great, and aubretia is exactly the kind of plant I'm looking for too. Good shout, we have both Aldi and Lidl close to us so I'll keep an eye out in the spring
Yes, do a trial run if you can, you could grow ammi from seed in your Mums conservatory, not as tall as the cow parsley, yes I love Aldi for cheap plunt plugs and have alwasy been good value, they usually have them around Easter. I have sort of volunteered myself to grow the flowers for my daughters Wedding, no date/year as yet, BUT she wants an Alien theme, have already said I cannot make the cake, a bridge too far for my baking skills. You better have a big venue, cos WE all want to come!

Lavender stoechas? Possibly a bit late to take cuttings now but you could try if you know someone with a plant.
