Slugs and snails

I've noticed that the slugs/snails in my garden eat the petals off my red gazanias but they leave the white stripey ones alone.
Can they see colours or is something else attracting or repelling them?
In London. Keen but lazy.

Perhaps the white stripiness makes their eyes go funny?
