    Guns are also very strictly controlled for farmers Pansyface but I wouldn't know about the nobility image  I second - or is it third - the berberis suggestion. I have one that attacks me every time I mow anywhere near it.

    The police recommended  Berberis around our oil tank to deter oil theifs but I would think as yours only 50' you could but a roll of sheep fencing, don't know what you call it where you live but it's strong with 4" square mesh. 

    Berberis grows quite quickly but nothing is instant, and anything will need a help to start with, even Leylandii which is fast growing.

    the fastest hedging we've ever had is Laurel, needs less attention than anything else but a bit boring to look at.
