What plants are these?
My grandson is growing these plants & we have no idea what they are. Can anyone help? Are they weeds etc? Thank you.

Well, it's not cannabis if that's what you're worried about. The one with less pointy leaves looks like basil. Pinch and sniff: does it smell like something you'd put in a pasta sauce? Whatever they are, they look very well cared for, so give him a pat on the back.

It's illegal to plant these in the wild ....... they're a really invasive species, spread like wildfire and cause untold damage to our river banks ... trust me, I lived next door to someone who grew a plant in his garden ... within a few years it was in every garden up and down the street
That being said, the flowers are beautiful and loved by bees, and the seed dispersal mechanism of the seed pods is fascinating.

And I was going on to say ... but the lads who were cleaning my car needed paying ... if growing these fascinating plants gives your grandson an interest in horticulture then it's well worthwhile ... but tell him not to let them spread

I've had a message from Richard ... he's going to tell his 8 year old grandson not to let them spread
