Online topsoil/soil conditioner supplier

Hi

Hoping someone can recommend a good online place to buy a tonne or two of soil conditioner for clay soil and couple of tonnes of topsoil suitable for sowing a lawn on.

I had looked at compost direct but it seems to have got some very bad reviews on trust pilot so don't think I want to risk using them.

Thanks in advance

I've bought compost and mulch from compost direct 3 times with no problems. With regard to the Trustpilot reviews, I think you have to expect a few bits of plastic etc in compost. I get a few out of my own compost bins and I try to be careful with what I put in there. Many of the complaints are about the delivery couriers. Think about your situation and how easy it is to reverse a lorry to the spot you want the bags to be delivered too. I've got a driveway that is easy for drivers to get in and out but still had one refuse who was delivering slate chips. I guess he was just not confident at reversing his lorry.

What part of the country are you in? There is a very good place in  Crews Hill Enfield N London.

Otherwise nationally Rolawn advertise in the magazines a lot no personal experience of them though.

I got topsoil from Silverton Aggregates (for loose loads) and Oakley Turf (for bulk bags) and very pleased with it.
It's the recovered silt from the sugar beet factories. They wash the beets then dry the silt and mix with some sand. It contains no stones at all and has the consistency of flour. I've been pleased with it (just as well as I had 24 ton in total), but it really needs organic matter dug in as well and for that, I went to CPA Horticulture and got the rotted horse manure - 4 ton.
A 4" layer of the manure then dug into the topsoil has produced a lovely fine tilth that everything is growing very well in.
This year I'll get the mushroom compost as it's straw based rather than wood shavings(which is in the horse manure)

Thanks for the replies, I'm in Northamptonshire so the one in Enfield unfortunately won't be any good. I'll look into the others though.

Slum, good to hear that you found the quality ok as that is my main concern. Though where we live is a bit awkward for lorries, larger ones normally have to reverse down so the delivery problems people have had aren't good either.

Thompsons of Crews Hill do deliver over a  wide area but obviously there would be a charge for delivery that far so It may make it expensive. Check their website.
