Cat mess

This is such an age old question, but what tips do others have for deterring neighboring cats from fouling in the garden? We're having huge problems with cat mess in our borders but worse still, there is now one (or more) cats who insist on fouling directly onto the lawn.

Any suggestions please?

water scarecrow - Google it. image They seem to be the most effective option for a lawn. Sticky up sticks and wire can work in flower beds.

There are sprays that put them off there are also clay pellets impregnated with the scent of Lions urine (called silent Roar) Trouble with both of these  they wear off/ rain washes away but they do work, maybe long enough for them to establish new habit elsewhere.

More money for Hosta for his retirement raisingirl  image

Water scarecrows are the only thing that works. Nothing else does, so don't waste your money on them.

Nothing else? Plenty of things will work If you have the will to try them.

Really? Clearly the  cats up here are more determined then. I've had them s**tting on top of bamboo skewers which were filling a raised bed, which also had  hoops of bamboo in it, and wire round it. Here's the pic. I actually saw it go in and cr*p in there.

I've used netting, twigs, chicken wire - not to mention the lemon peel, the garlic blah, blah, blah, and I've  lost count of the time and money I've spent trying to keep the r***y things out.

Oh - and when they couldn't get into any of those 'cages' they s**t on the grass.

I'm afraid I have neither the time, nor the inclination, to spend keeping other people's 'pets' out of my garden. A jet of water up their jacksy works wonders.

High powered water pistol filled with vinegar or lemon juice should help deter them.  If they are made uncomfortable enough they will go and **** elsewhere.

  • Thank you for all the advice - seems like water is the way to go! ?
