Wild violets

My garden is overrun with wild violets - both in the flower beds and lawn itself. I presume the only way to get rid of them is to dig them out which I am not relishing! Is there any kind of herbicide that might do the trick instead?

Lawnsmith recommend a ready to use weedkiller such as resolva or weedol (verdone).
I've had this in borders and the lawn for a number of years having moved into a property where it was allowed free reign. I find that I get rid of some then it comes back. I work away for a month at a time so the blighters I've missed sometimes set seed in my absence!
A repeat application is sometimes necessary although do allow time and dispersion between applications.
If it wasn't for the viola and suckling clover I wouldn't have much weeding to do!
you can find a herbicide to kill everything. Including ourselves eventually
