Something is digging out the soil in my plant pot

Squirrels were stealing my tulips and planting conkers in the pots as a swap.
I cut a piece of kitchen wire just smaller than the top of the pot, placed it on the compost and added more to hold it down . It worked but after flowering it was a problem detangling the leaves from the chicken wire.

We have the blackbirds always digging into pots and throwing the compost all over. Have had to put nets over pots to allow the plants to become more established so that the birds don't pull not just the compost out but the plants.
  • Squirrels for bulbs, raccoons for fresh compost added)) methinks they think there’s some food for them there …
started to put river rock in pots lately and fill up gaps with gravel . Only for bulbs though, as they will be stored elsewhere later this year away from hot sun so rocks don’t bake the bulbs ))) bulbs woke up this year, so looks like it’s been working this time around

Don't have too much trouble with racoons here  :)  Rats, cats, foxes, squirrels, voles, the dog, blackbirds, mice and voles. But no racoons. As they say, things are never so bad that they couldn't get worse  B)

  • I had a similar problem with foxes Rosie, I thought it was cats at first until I remembered refreshing the compost in my herb pots and adding a bit of BF&B. Must have been irresistible to the fox who just made a mess!

    What the hell is BF&B???

Not very considerate to use abbreviations when most novice are not privy to the lingo.

Maybe you could have phrased your concern differently? More likely to get a positive response. Have no idea what the last part of your post means.

Blackbirds have wrecked my pots so I have netted them ,they also pulled out all my lettuce seedlings ,I wouldn’t mind if they ate them but they just chuck them all over and by the time I find them they’re dead. They pulled out my lavender too .Help the wildlife? Seems to me they help themselves, little b….gers !

BFB stands for Blood, Fish and Bone.  A basic fertiliser which is often used during Autumn as a slow release fertiliser on borders and raised beds,  You can also use it to add to sterile top soil when making up a decent planting medium.
Perhaps you too could act as an adult and rephrase your query so that posters understand your query.
CUGWIT ??  Maybe you could explain your abbreviation too ?  Fairs fair - you now know what BFB stands for.

    What a rude comment @wanderingnomad1981
You could simply have asked what it meant. I think you could also listen to your own advice and behave like an adult.
