Water barrel lining

Hi,

I recently had to empty my water barrel pond and unfortunately it stood empty for longer than anticipated and shrunk back quite a lot. I keep topping it up with rain water and it's starting to slowly swell again. I have started to think of maybe using a liner and wondered what might be the best option, flexible sheet liners or if I can get one that fits a preformed bucket type.

Are there any pros &cons ?I would be very grateful for any opinions or advice.

Many thanks

Would it be practical to lift the barrel out and line the hole with heavy duty plastic, then replace the barrel.  That way any water still leaking out would be retained and may help the wood to expand faster.

Cheapest option is a sturdy plastic bag
