It's a shame we can't click on the photos to magnify them a bit over certain areas to see more detail. Could it be bamboo?
If you right-click on the photo you can choose Open Image in New Tab to get a better definition.
Thanks Pete8. Not so sure it's bamboo now I'm seen it a bit closer but it does have an unruly, thuggish look to it which is a bit of a worry.
Do the flowers in the bottom LH quadrant belong to the shrub?
If not, it looks more like a willow.
Looks a lot like Salix purpurea to me.
