Grass seed

Hi, is this current weather with a mixture of rain and sunshine ideal conditions to grow grass seed, as I'm doing some patch work on my lawn, I have mixed grass seed with top soil and put that down, anyone got any advice?

Even if it is rainy, there is still a big chance of dry spells very quickly. If you start now, be prepared to water when there are very dry spells again. Just rake over the areas that need re-seeding. Spike the area if it is quite compacted. Broadcast your chosen seed evenly over the patch. Then sprinkly very fine layer of topsoil. Water it in well and wait. Water if the soil gets very dry.

Thanks for your advice, so the grass seed has been down for 2 days now , the soil looks moist conditions seem good , sun in the morning and rain in afternoon, I will just be patient and wait for them red shoots to appear

nearly 3 weeks ago I used the 4 in 1 evergreen and that killed parts of the grass , so thats why I'm doing this patch work , I raked all the dead stuff out , I think preparation is key

One of the most important gardening skills is this one - most try to acquire it early

That's a nice hankie you have on Dove - not as stylish as your usual look though....image

Lee - it isn't easy, that patience thing, is it?  In spring I sowed some pale nasturtiums along my window box on the back fence, to tumble down on the inside like last year. The r*ddy pigeons have annihilated virtually all of them, so now I'll have to wait till next year and be ready with some chicken wire image  image

I'm getting better at being patient, at first when I put that 4 in 1 down , I was angry and upset with myself , but a few weeks later I'm feeling more optimistic and realise preparing the soil is key to being successful with grass seed
