What is it, how do I get rid of it - black pods on lawn
Over the past two months we have been seeing a plant which has small black pea like pods spreading across our lawn.
I would like to know what it is and what the best way of removing it is.
Thanks

Have you got any photos of the leaves?
What colour were the flowers?

There don't seem to be many leaves for me to photograph at the moment, just lots of black pods lying amongst the grass and the stems.
It had little purple flowers in the late spring.
Did it look anything like this
Common vetch (Victa sativa)
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Apart from being a member of the pea family, I can't ID that one.sorry

Hmmm, having had a closer look at the pods in your photos, they don't look right for Victa sativa

I didn't think so Dove. There are so many plants in that family. I would need to see at least leaves or flowers, preferably both.
I like things like that in my grass but I should think a rake and a mow would help, before the seeds ripen so possibly too late for this year

Yes, they looked lovely when they were in bloom, now we just have a lawn covered in black pods.
Thank you for your help so far. I will update if I manage to get a picture of the leaves.
It looks to me like mange tout "Shiraz",but what it would be doing in a lawn I can't imagine!
