Canna stem snapped off in strong winds - can it be saved?

Hi All,
I'm relatively new to gardening. My Canna has been growing really well but upon getting home from work today, a stem has snapped clean off at the base in high winds.
Can it be saved by re-potting? If so, what is the best technique? I currently have it in a vase in the kitchen, with a little water in the bottom.
