Harvesting potatoes - cut leaves before?

Hi my early potatoes (stated late..) are ready to harvest. Foliage is turning yellow (plant is otherwise healthy and no sign of any other disease). I read somewhere that you should cut stems  just above ground level and leave it for extra week before harvesting potatoes.

Any thoughts? Ta

I think that you cut off the tops if leaving maincrop for harvesting late , say October, (to harden the skins)but presumably these are earlies and you will be using soon and not storing.  If so it makes no difference, just dig up one at a time as you use them.

Just watched a TV show, the Beechgrove garden, that confirms what fidget bones has said.
