Watering plants with soakaway water
Being new to owing a septic tank, I was told I could use the water from the soakaway for watering my vegetables and fruit trees. But when I look at it it smells and looks pretty grotty! I have also been told that you can add micro-organisms that would counter act this and help keep the tank healthy. I saw an advert for Muck munchers in the Gardners World magazine and wondered if anyone had used this or similar products, what advice/comments did they have about these types of products.
Finally, does anyone use this water on their veg and fruit trees, or should it be best left alone?
Thank you for reading this post, hopefully someone can help me!

It's hard to generalise as every tank/ contents/ use is unique really.
I looked after a garden with one and the owner had it checked out and found it passed as "drinking quality" They didn't I have to say, but if it "smells and looks pretty grotty" I think I'd pass on it.
You might want to try it on some random plant you d not be afraid to lose? Just a thought.
The water from a modern properly functioning septic tank shouldn't really be smelly ...
Do you know if the previous owner ever had it 'de-sludged'? Some tanks work so well that they rarely need the sludge to be pumped out, but some need it done from time to time.
