    Glyphosphate ? :)

What sort of liner is it?

I had a puncture in a butyl liner a few years ago and used a bicycle puncture repair kit. It's still holding.

The runners from bamboo will take the line of least resistance so if one has come that way its mates will probably follow.  Cut a slot about 12" deep all around the main bamboo clump and trace and remove any runners you find.  It's rare for them to go deeper than that, although it can happen.  I would then use 12" paving slabs on edge to surround the bamboo to keep it where you want it.

I had a bamboo for years which was contained and behaved beautifully.  We had work done in the garden and the numpties who did the work removed the barrier, and I didn't realise they had done so at the time.  Within 2 years I was seeing bamboo coming up all over the lawn.  Eventually I removed the main bamboo clump and traced the runners and removed them.  It was hard work, and quite a bit of repair work was needed on the lawn, but worth it in the end.

Repairing the liner will be straightforward as you have an obvious hole.  Go to anywhere that sells ponds and liners and they will have repair kits.  You'll need to drop the water to a couple of inches below the hole but the patch will do the trick.
