Redcurrants not ripening.

I have two laxton 2 redcurrant bushes, which are in their 2nd year, they have an abundance of fruit on them but are not going red! On tasting then they seem quite palatable, not sharp at all. My blackcurrant are harvested a few weeks ago.

My question is, when I purchased these could they have been mislabeled and are really whitecurrants! Or do they usually take an age to go red.

Thanks, looking forward to any suggestions.

Sara.

Not sure where you are but my redcurrants are usually the first to ripen, well ahead of blackcurrants. So yes, I'd say there's a fair chance you have white currants instead - especially if they taste OK. My redcurrants were all picked and bottled 2 weeks ago down here in Devon

Our Redcurrants here have been picked and processed. Sounds like yours are definitely not what they claim to be. Redcurrants start off green and then turn red. I don't think they are ever white.

Thank you, my thoughts seem to be right. Was looking forward to redcurrant jelly too. No they have never been green, always white,!

I am in Somerset, so i would have thought if the Devon areas Redcurrants have already been picked mine should have too..
