clematis disease ?

My Clematis has sort of withered at the top, is this a disease of some kind ?imageimageimage

    Drought or damage to the stem. Clematis wilt starts at the bottom of the plant and works up. Drought starts at the top and works down.

    I would look for something having eaten the stem somewhere.

    Cut the damage out ?

    I would guess drought ... we've had a dry winter/spring/early summer, and that clem is under a tree which will be taking most of the moisture, as well as shading off any rain.  A couple of buckets full of water  at least three times a week from early March throughout the growing season is my remedy.
