How to control these bugs and stop them eating roots of plants in pots

You see the two creamy coloured ones on the left with the gingery heads and no legs?  They're vine weevil grubs and they've been eating the roots of your plants.

Not sure what the others are .... they look as if they've got legs so they're not vine weevils ....... there are a lot of them aren't there?

But I'll put money on the Vine Weevils grubs being the culprits.

Have a look here .... scroll down to see the grubs https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?PID=234

I use nematodes to control them ... they really work.

Could the other ones be young Woodlice?

I'm not sure ... I did wonder ... hard to tell ... photo's a bit fuzzy and there's nothing to give a sense of scale ...

I think the darker ones are older vine weevil grubs which are beginning to pupate.  Spread them out on a sheet of tarpaulin etc and let the birds have a feast!

Alternatively, they may already be infected with nematodes which truns them brown:

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
  • So far I have not used nematodes. These are definitely larvae of some sort of beetle. These are smaller and darker than those I have seen in the past. But there is no doubt they need to be removed, chickens love them. There is something similar in my compost heaps which I am to,d are helpful to the composting process. I use commercial compost for pots.
