Flying Ant Day

Yeah... it's not so much a day as many different days.    I was looking it up to see which birds enjoy eating them and saw lots of [British] news outlets going with the "how to get rid of them" angle, although every one later mentioned how the ants are both harmless and good for the garden.    I don't think there is a US vs UK thing in wanting to kill what's outside.    It depends on the sites you go to.  UK way ahead in the idea of peat as a non-renewable resource [except over thousands of years.] but still plenty of UK sites about killing pests/weeds etc.  Especially lawn sites.

In the US, it was "killer bees are coming" from South America.  Here it seems to be those caterpillars and hornets.   Although I saw a great Daily Mail full page story about "Beavers running riot on our rivers" or something like that.

    B3 says:

And then there's 'Phew wot a scorcher!' Children come out and eat ice cream and pasty people lie on grass day.

    In a few months it'll be - 'shock horror - it's cold, and it's raining/snowing/freezing/hailing' etc.

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

Not seen any flying ants here yet. But the horse flies are particularly vicious just now .
