Scabby Cactus Help

Hello,
My cactus has started forming this scabby section on one of its trunks. I'm not sure if this is going to be a serious issue. I've been told it's probably from being underwatered. Does that sound right?
I think I've attached a picture.

Try reducing the size of the pic ... that usually works
