Left over soil from digging out extension in shady area

we have a pile of soil in a shady area at the botton of the garden. it has been sat there for quite a few years since we had our extension at the back of the house. We can't afford a skip (plus it doesn't seem right to throw away soil). So what do we do with it, not good quality soil. It is in a shady area of the garden due to neighbours overhanging trees.

If the soil is half-decent , why not level it out a bit and plant with shade-loving plants (ferns , Hostas) etc ?

There is an interesting ground covering fern (Blechnum penna-marina) which spreads fairly rapidly and is amenable to most conditions .

There are numerous plants tolerant of shade available ; http://www.gardenersworld.com/plants/plant-inspiration/the-best-shade-loving-plants/ ; various options available here image

Why not just plant it up as a hill.  I did this for a couple of years then built a raised bed around it and levelled it out.
