Weed/tree suckers?

Hi,

does anyone know what these unwanted visitors are? My neighbour has a large maple that gets hacked back annually and I'm wondering if these are from it? What's the best way to get rid of them? They are popping up everywhere.

Suckers off of the rootstock. Try to pull them out if you can. Otherwise keep mowing. Treatment with a systemic weedkiller will kill the original tree.

Agree with nut - possibly cherry, too.  Any plum or cherry trees in your or neighbours garden?
As for eradication, unless you remove the 'mother' tree and roots these suckers are coming from, all you can do is keep mowing them down.

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
