What is this weed?

When this first appeared I thought it was one of the many geraniums that haf reseeded, or a wild strawberry that had seeded. It seems to have five leaves though. It's sending out runners and is growing in and taking over the border. Any ideas?image

  •  Potentilla Reptans AKA Creeping Cinquefoil .  Use Glysophate carefully to avoid killing nearby plants.  Pull leaves up through a plastic bottle with top and bottom cut off - then spray.

I also have this in my garden, and was told it was wild strawberry.  It does indeed have strawberry like fruits on it, so is it the same as the Potentilla Reptans?  Is it a thug and should |i get rid of it?  Advice would be welcome as it is threading through my Gaura.

Definitely not the same as wild strawberry.  Maybe you have both, Novice?    You could also just pull (either) up where you don't want it.  It may come back but you can just pull it again.  I have both in my garden and seem to coexist with it pretty well. image  This is wild strawberry.  3 lobed leaves.  Quite useful for groundcover in dry shade (although the berries don't taste too nice) but it does spread.  I'd just pull out what you don't want.

Thanks Watery.  Now the downpours have temporary stopped I have been out and checked my plant.  It does have the 3 lobed leaves, so is the wild strawberry.  I will carry on pulling it out when it gets tooo enthusiastic.   Thanks for your help,
