Black fly on Clematis

I have black fly around the tips and flowers of a newly planted clematis. There are ants as well, but I've read that these aren't helping to remove the problem, but have a symbiotic relationship. Any ideas as how to deal with them?

A well aimed jet of water from the hosepipe will do the trick without killing off predatory insects who will also help get rid of them.

For the future hang bird feeders near your clematis to attract the tit families ... they hoover up the aphids on our climbers. image

Oh, and as for the ants, keep the soil moist ... Good for the clematis  and ants prefer dry soil.
