Dublin bay rose

B3B3 Posts: 27,505

On finding it was a pillar rose, I followed forum advice and pruned it back.

It has thickened up nicely but has gone higher than the side of the pergola.

Should I try to encourage it to bend a bit or should I keep it pruned to the height of the pergola?

In London. Keen but lazy.

It's hard to say without seeing a picture. If the branches are getting stiff, might not be a good idea as it may snap or tear if it's getting too strong. Train a younger shoot that is able to bend. Sudden high rainfall in hot summer will cause roses to grow very fast, so start training quickly.
