Paulownia Tomentosa (Empress Tree)

Torg22Torg22 Posts: 302

Hi there.

I am growing empress trees from seed and now have around 4 or 5 happy seedlings of around 2cm tall. My question is as a seedling do they take quite a long while to establish themselves?  They have been tiny for a good few weeks now but I was under the impression that they were extremely fast growing?!

they're fast when they get going. The annual growth on a coppiced specimen is amazing.

Trees aren't usually quick in the first few years

Ahh. I may have to wait a while then! I was anxious about growing these as I have heard they are one of the fastest growing trees in the world and can grow many feet tall each year.  That said i will probably keep it in a pot and hack it down annually if it's successful to promote large leaves (don't think my landlord will appreciate a 50ft tree in their communal car park :)

sounds a great addition to a car park to me.

You'll need a big pot in a few years
