Cardboard on compost

I wouldn't worry too much. If these pieces are too big, they'll just take longer to break down is all. Compost worms are said to adore the glue used in cardboard, so they will have a whale of a time.

My compost heap takes largely lawn mowings and non pernicious weeds,  most of any vege food waste, plus paper shreddings. I am lucky to have space for two Msq  wooden bins on an annual fill and empty cycle. I have had to top OH from putting in anything twiggy. OH digs the year old compost out each year and put it into dustbins for use. Then we start filling the empty bin .

The bins get to a good heat and although the stuff we dig out is lumpy it is well composted and smells sweet. I have thought of using cardboard and  I will give it a go.

The worms do get in when it has cooled.
