Brown buds on carnations
hi all, Ive recently started my first flower bed so it's fair to say I'm very new to flowers and gardening- I've grew some cornflower from seed which is now in the flower bed and doing well, salvia which is also doing well and Dutch lavender- also looking great- in the same bed I have 5 caranation plants well spread out- all have been in about 8 weeks. The carnations have not been well since the first 2 weeks or so- buds are dry brown and crispy - one or two flowers but even they dont look strong. I've taken all the dry buds off but new ones continue to grow back brown- what could be the problem and what can I do to help them ? Many thanks ????????????

Are these buds dried out and empty or are they just brown and wilting? The plant is showing signs of a possible fungal problem. If new buds continue to form in the same way, it's important to keep soil areas free of dead buds or leaves. Try to keep the base area as dry as possible. They want free draining soil that is more on the alkaline side. No need to water them too much either. If you are growing in containers, it's easier to control the conditions. You have done the right thing by taking off the buds.
