Are My vegetables still edible
in Fruit & veg
Hi,
Today My neighbour on the allotments burnt a large plastic water barrel. Is the fruit and veg on My plot still edible??
Cheers Jason

Not very considerate of them, but I'm sure your fruit and veg will be fine. Maybe give them an extra rinse if the smoke was blowing their way

Many thanks Pete8
Rinse them well and make sure they taste okay.
If they don't taste good; I.e. feel like they've a plastic type coating of rudeness disguard them.
Others... enjoy your hard work!
This is more than inconsiderate it is downright dangerous. Burning plastic at (relatively) low temperatures produces a lot of very toxic substances. I hope you did not have to breathe in any of the smoke. Unless there is an obvious coating on your crops they should be ok with a thorough wash. If you have an Allotment committee, or contact with the council you should report this, we work hard to clamp down on this kind of behaviour on our site but sadly we get a lot of " me no understand" reaction. We still threaten eviction from the site if they do again!
Totally agree Ian - burning plastic is totally illegal.
