Broad Bean problem

For the last 2 years my Broad Beans have been badly infested with blackfly very early in the season. I have sprayed them to get rid of it but the beans themselves all have a brown mark on them which is hiding a maggot. Is this the result of the blackfly or something else?

It won't be anything to do with the blackfly ... they're aphids and don't produce maggots.

I must say I've been growing broad beans on and off for 50 years and I've never come across maggots in the beans ...

    Anyone got any ideas?

Me neither got them in the peas (Pea Moth) the raspberries (raspberry beetle). The only things that Broad beans usually suffer from are Blackfly & chocolate  spot which is fungal. However there is a pea & Bean Weevil . They usually just show as notches in the leaves of young spring sown plants and according to the RHS the larvae feed on the roots of plants not inside the pods. Are you saving your own seed? there is a bean seed beetle but again according to RHS the grubs are usually too small to see.

Hopefully when the glitch is fixed Pamela will be able to upload some photos to show us what the problem is ... image
