Weeds or flowers/plants?!

I'm a complete newbie to gardening but I've developed an interest since buying our first house. The previous owner left the garden in a terrible state so it's taken us a long time to sort (still nowhere near completion!). As a result, I've got things coming up left right and centre. I certainly know what bindweed is! But there are two things growing and I'm reticent to pull them up, as someone mentioned they could be poppies?! I've attached some pictures. The 'spiky' one appears to have perhaps a flower growing in the middle, or it could be a new set of leaves?! Desperate for help please. Thank you.

photos can be tricky here. Make them smaller for a start then work from the camera icon
