Hi ,holes have appeared in my baby cavolo nero plants, the surounds of the leaves are in tact. Is this due to slugs and snails or is it something airborne? Help please!

Have a look for caterpillars. I found the same with some of mine I just planted out and looking carefully found green caterpillars were the cause. They won't be turning into butterflies...

Thanks Pete.. does this mean they can recover from this and grow on ?
They will recover, but you need to get rid of all the caterpillars first, and look carefully on every leaf to see if there are more eggs and where you find eggs, squash them.
I grow mine under netting so was surprised to find holes in some of them. It was caterpillars that hatched from eggs laid by a cabbage white butterfly before they went under the netting. On 6 plants I found 3 caterpillars and several batches of eggs. I squished the eggs and left the caterpillars on the lawn for the birds

Thanks , will do .... Have a good day!
I grew the runner beans very successfully in a large container this summer ( with a brick buried inside the compost) and this meant as it was near the house the pigeons did not get a look in.
I guess I will have to net and I hope that this delicious kale will be ok in same sized container, all compost removed and more compost inside.
Has anyone tried to grow in a container and any thoughts. I did feed the runner bean quite a lot and watering was almost daily.
