That will be fine, ours always looks like that, next year do it in April it will still be wet and have some rain on it then.

I wouldn't cut it till the end of the week or the weekend unless it rains. It's better left to grow a little, then cut lightly and left a bit longer. That way, it'll withstand dry spells better.

Once it gets really dried out, it needs copious amounts of water to properly hydrate it, and rain does that better than anything. If there's no reasonable rainfall in the offing and you want to water it yourself, put a sprinkler on and leave it in one area for at least half an hour - or even longer. If you don't have a sprinkler, push a fork into the ground and attach a hose. Put it on a spray that's nice and steady, and give each area  the same sort of time before moving it  image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

Hi , if you have used 4 in 1 evergreen can mixing grass seed with top soil and putting more top soil on the ground improve chances of grass seed germinating,

I used 4 in 1 evergreen last Tuesday big mistake, by the end of the week I raked up lots of dead grass , then I put fresh top soil down and then mixed grass seed and top soil and chucked that down and lightly raked it in and have watered it when required

I understand the chemical could still be present but what more can I do to give grass seed a chance

    any advice anyone

    thanks

  • Just joined this forum. It is now mid-September and I'm just about to enter the wacky world of Evergreen 4 in 1!

I bought an Evergreen spreader together with Westland Aftercut, not realising that I would need to know the respective spreader settings! Anyway, I gave it a go but realised that all I was doing was just 'crunching up the granules' as when I had finished that section I still had a load of granules in the spreader.image

I've now got some Evergreen 4 in 1 which tells me what spreader setting I need (4.5, I think) so I now need to work out how much I will need but I reckoned if I just put an amount in the spreader and when it is empty leave it whjere it is and add more granules. The lawn is a difficult shape, what with curves and paving slabs dotted in as well (paths).

I don't think much Aftercut got spread on my first attempt so I will risk it, the one thing they never tell you is how fast /slow do you walk? And I have one leg shorter than the other too!image

    I'll let you know how I fare.image

  • Underdo rather than overdo would be my advice. You can always add a bit more after but you can't take it off once it's on!

    Good luck!
