Marchantia polymorpha (Liverwort) ; grows in damp places .
Is that area poorly drained? If so, I think it's a female form of liverwort called Marchantia polymorpha. See here:

People often eradicate plants like this ; why ? Look closely at them with a magnifier ; amazing creatures !
I remember my first ever biology lesson at grammar school ... we were taken for a walk down the road to the chapel yard and shown a big patch of liverwort ... it's fascinated me ever since
