Eremurus can be grown in pots wide enough to take the 'finger'-like root system without breaking them . Leave the crown just above the soil level , (fairly free-draining medium) , and carefully direct the roots slightly downwards .
Apparently they respond to a good winter chill , (ideally a cold-frame or greenhouse) to keep the worst of the winter wet away . They can be kept quite dry during the winter if need be .
