broab bean
in Fruit & veg
On harvesting my broad beans I found the actual beans had tiny brown pinpricks on them, some with just one or two marks others quite bad. Had to throw quite a few away. Have looked on the internet but can't find this anywhere! Has anyone else had this problem or know what it is and is there anything that can help stop/cure

Its called chocolate spot. Its caused by type of fungus called botrytis. I get it sometimes if we have had a lot of damp humid weather. Maximise air flow around plants by spacing well apart. There is no spray available to amateurs. Do not compost infected stems, dispose of in green bin or burn.
Thankyou for your response. I had seen chocolate spot on the internet and it seemed to me that it was just referring to the leaves/plant and not the actual beans so if the beans are affected as well that's my answer!! The leaves on my plants don't seem to be affected but I will have another look at them when I go up to the allotment
