Does my tree need to come down?

  • My experience is somewhat different.  My tree (Sycamore) is within a conservation area, my neighbours tree is also a Sycamore and is outside our conservation area. Both measure over 75mm in diameter at 1.5mtrs.  The conservation boundary follows a public footpath that is between the two properties.

My neighbour wanted his felling, I wanted mine thinned and the crown reducing. We both had to apply for permission from our local council. My application was accepted, my neighbours was rejected.

On making further enquires my neighbour says that he's informed that all trees wherever they are measuring 75mm at a height of 1.5mtrs are now protected (February 2016) and that these trees require permission to prune, thin or fell whether they are TPO'd or not.

This may or may not be correct but my neighbour is determined to fell his tree and continues to try and fail.   The council have now TPO'd his tree after several months of trying to get it felled.
