Chemicals Used in Edible Plant Growing

How sure can a customer be that herb/veg/edible flower plants sold by garden centres have not been sprayed with chemicals unsuitable for human consumption.

I would say the only plants you can be sure of are those you raise yourself.

By the time you get the plants home, plant them, grow them on and harvest them, any chemicals such as insecticide will be long gone. The products that are still available nowadays don't taint the crops for long.

Agree and most of the stuff on the veg rack in supermarkets is far more likely to have been raised under a shower of various chemicals than any plants found in a garden centre!

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
  • Must admit, I haven't bought organic, possibly would consider it if we had a local supplier. And as others have said, can you be 100% sure?

However once they get on my plot I do garden organically. Not sure if they taste better, but at least I know what's gone into the food on my plate.
