Monkey puzzle tree.
Hi All
i need advace about my monkey puzzle tree. It is about 30 ft high and would guess about 30 yrs old O very mature.
In the last couple of years the lower branches have turned brown. This has affected about third of the branches. The upper two thirds appear healthy.
Do I remove the dead branches or not. Does anyone have any advice about the cause and how I Can stop it getting any worse
I have attached a photo.
Philip.
Thanks for reading.

A similar thread the other night posed a similar problem . Araucarias in habitat lose their lower branches with age by a process which has evolved called evanescence . This reduces fire-risk and damage to their crowns .
Google images show groves of these , predominantly in Chile ; most of the mature trees have lost their lower branches .
I don't think it's due to lack of rainfall , although they do originate from moist climes .
