Pear trees

The tree blossoms. Sets fruit , fruit reaches pea size and then disappears, why?

There's a thing called the June Drop ... it happens around late June, when the tree discards a lot of small fruit, retaining only the number which the tree will be able to bring to maturity.

This affects apples and pears https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?PID=611

I'm waiting to be sure my tree has finished dropping before I thin the pears as it's only a young tree.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

  • I had terrible crops until I installed another tree and now both have decent fruit on them.
