Covering for Cabbage Whits butterflies

I have found that one needs a mesh of 5mm x 7mm (quite small) to prevent them getting in. I have watched them getting in via a 7mm x 7mm mesh by sitting on the mesh then folding their wings and "flipping" through. Quite incredible!

Also, don't allow your brassicas to touch the mesh around the sides! They just land and lay eggs on the crop touching the net. AND make sure the net is in contact with the ground as they also creep underneath!

The other problem is you can't use this size mesh if you want bees to pollinate your crops. Bees seem to be able to get through a 10mm x 10mm mesh which is no good for Cabbage White.

Anyone have their own observations on this?

I cover my brassicas with butterfly netting and they can't get through.

I'm not concerned about bees getting to my brassicas, there are no flowers there for them anyway
