How best to remove a massive root system

I have a large flower bed that was overgrown with a jasmine vine which i have now cut back and killed with Roundup. What remains is a root system that is about 6 inches deep and solid. Is there an easier way to remove ot then chopping it with an axe into chunks?

Not really but a mattock makes life easier as you can use leverage to help.

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

Get a neighbour to tell the police he has reason to believe you're concealing a cache of firearms in your garden.  image

Living in the US, the police probably wouldn't care :)
