Can anyone tell me why my roadies product E the flower buds but won't develop into the full flower as they seem to die off at this stage. Any help would be appreciated.

It's really past the time now for rhodedendrons to flower. Are you sure it is a rhodie?
Probably need more rainwater in Spring ; as hogweed says , definitely too late .
