Runner beans

Hi,

I have been growing beans in the same patch for several years. I dig in fresh compost and fertilizer each year but the crop these past 2 years has been disappointing. Should I let the patch go fallow for a year or grow another crop.

Thanks

Try growing them in a new place.  Put brassica family ( cabbage etc) where the beans have been.

I grow my beans in the same positon as its sheltered but I use big planters and re fill with new compost each year..    I have sudden bean problems myself.. French beans being eaten but no visible culprit yet Runners next to them uhaffected..

I've grown french/runner beans in the same spot 3yrs running, always had a good crop.

This yr I've grown a row of broad beans in front of the french/runner beans and they don't like it, they are looking pale.

I try to rotate veg so I struggle with leaving beans in the same spot but I inherited a fab bean support structure on the allotment hence planting in the same spot .

Try a different spot and let us know how you get on. It's not to late to sow two lots of dwarf beans and compare which does better, new spot or old...
