Acer Problem

This Acer (I bought it about March) was in splendid health up to about a month ago, with luscious soft feathery fronds.  One day the leaves suddenly turned crisp and dry, and they've eventually gone brown but are not, as yet falling.  Someone told me I needed to give it lots of water and though the leaves would fall it would recover, so I did.  Someone else said give it an ericacious feed at weekly intervals so I did that too.  But nothing is happening and I'm at a loss as to what should be done next.  At the time it began to ail, we were experiencing quite high winds so I assumed it might be wind-burn of some kind.  Does anyone have any suggestions?image  I should add that I doubt it was due to underwatering - I'm very careful about that.

Wind and sunburn perhaps. All mine have been hit by a little burn, especially my dissectum. Not much you can do about it unless you have well protected spots in the garden which is sheltered.

If it is grown in a pot, when you can see harsh winds, move them closer to protective walls or under taller shrubs or trees. Young plants are less likely able to deal with winds. Acers with fine leaves are the most delicate and very easily damaged by dry winds.

If it is in a pot, it's best grown near some tall protective shrubs to keep them from extremes in their early years.

Thank you, both.  Too late now, i think to pot it.  I've got it on a south east facing lawn and we're only about 3 miles from the coast so I think it might well be a combination of sun and wind.  I've grown them before on a south facing lawn, but that was up in the north-west of England, where sun was something of a rare commodity.  :)  Such a shame, though.
