Can anyone identify this plant that was supposed to be a nice curly red lettuce like its neighbours? An exotic pepper, by any chance? Or just a good old-fashioned weed?
Super, thanks for the instant gratification. It's the only one within several hundred yards of my garden, so it most probably came in the seed packet since it's in exactly the right spot. I think I'll uproot it and eat its leaves ('palatable and nutritious' - Wikipedia).

I didn't realise they were edible - they come up all over my garden and have done for years.
I'll have try of one.
