Brussels Sprouts - problem

This is our first year growing veg and all has gone well.  But now we've noticed our brussels sprouts have developed white powdery patches on some of the central leaves and they've distorted somewhat.  Not sure what you can see from the photograph, but hopefully someone will know what it is and what we need to do.image

Those look like aphids to me ... blast them off with a strong jet from the hosepipe.  Otherwise the plants look nice and healthy image

Thank you!  I've had a closer look and on several leaves (with my specs on) I can see clusters of greyish aphids, so I've given them an early morning shower.  On other discoloured leaves there's no sign, but perhaps the aphids have moved on.

As Dove says - a blast with the hose is the best option.
Sometimes they don't like to let go though. If you have a hand sprayer, fill with water and add just 3-4 drops of washing up liquid, give the aphid areas a spray with the hand spray first (the tiny amount of washing up liquid is enough to loosen the blighters), then when you blast with the hose they'll be gone.

Good tip Pete, I'll do that.  Thanks.
