Pruning a Princess Flower Bush

image

we are not sure if our Princess Flower (Tibouchina semidecandra) plants can be saved. No leaves at all apart from those at ends of branches (see photo). If we prune down to six inch branches will they grow back? Or should we just give up and start over with new plant?

I planted 4 and 2 of mine are doing the same thing after a month. I suspect it's the acidity. Trying to decide whether to cut all the way back or give up. What did you find out?

    Hi Danna,

I cut mine back to about six inches and am waiting to see what happens. If they don't come back I am probably going to buy new Purple Princess plants and start over, as they did well for several years before they started failing. They are such beautiful plants -- I hope the pruning works!
