I often wonder where all these beasts come from. Flightless and tiny, and certainly invisible for much of the year, suddenly there are countless numbers, setting about your plants. It's a mystery.
Early in the year we watched the sparrows pulling the petals from the primroses. They didn't "eat" them or take them for bedding just pulled them off and moved onto another plant to do the same.
I would doubt that it's woodlice, but woodlice do a huge job in the garden getting rid of all sorts of detritus, so they often get a bad name unfortunately. They mainly tend to eat things that are already damaged by other pests. Earwigs also like to nibble the edges of petals of all kinds, so it could be that, or slugs. They love them.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
